A CHINESE CANTON SANDALWOOD CALLING CARD CASE TOGETHER WITH A BAMBOO BRUSH POT.

Qing Dynasty, 19th Century.

The card case ornately worked all over to depict figures in a garden landscape, bordered to the top and bottom with peach fruit sprays, the brush pot carved with a panel of figures in a garden on one side and a fan-shaped panel enclosing a phoenix above a quatrefoil panel depicting two deer, all below a floral band, and inscribed Xiangyuegumei and Chunfengxinyan, 12 and 13cm H. (3)

The bitong has deep cracks along the wood grain and a chip to the rim interior, the card case minute chips to the carving.
