A PAIR OF LARGE 20TH CENTURY RUSSIAN AMETHYST GLASS AND ORMOLU MOUNTED VASES
AFTER THE MODEL BY THE IMPERIAL GLASS FACTORY
of baluster form, the gadroon cut and stepped necks over a hobnail cut band and a band cut with strawberry diamonds, with volute scroll style handles terminating in gilt bronze mounts, the mounts cast with classical female mask handles, raised on spreading socles over pillar cut bases, on ormolu square plinths with toupie feet,

An identical pair of Russian glass vases but of cranberry glass rather than amethyst glass and featuring the classical mask handles found on the present vases were sold at Christie's, London, 1 April 2014, lot 418, £17,500.
These vases and the Christie's pair are direct copies from a known model produced by the Imperial Glass Manufactory in St Petersburg in the first half of the 19th century, and an example is in the State History Museum of Moscow.
