A BURMESE UNMARKED SILVER REPOUSSÉ BOWL WITH DANCERS
Rangoon, Burma (Myanmar), South East Asia, ca. 1890 - 1900
Of deep compressed circular shape with a fold-over rim, resting on a plain base, the body decorated with three overlapping horizontal registers, the central and widest band with lobed cartouches with embossed figures of dancers in a variety of poses and stands interspersed amidst interlocking vegetal meanders, framed within two narrow decorative bands with foliate scrolls and stylised palmette leaves with floral stems in relief, three geometric fretwork registers chased below the rim, inscribed in English 'Presented to W. A. Dunlop By the Accounts Staff of the B.O.C. (B.T). Ltd' (British oil station) around the rim, 592gr., 17cm diam. and 12cm high.
