Charles I Eikon Basilike [transliterated from Greek]. The Works of King Charles the Martyr, 2 vol. bound in one, each section with divisional title, engraved frontispiece featuring arms and architectural title-page incorporating Charles I’s portrait, 2 only, of 3 double-page engraved plates, first few pages and second vol. title ruled in red, minor tearing, occasional light spotting and dust soiling, a little staining to a few places, rebound in modern paneled calf, original upper board preserved, rubbed, [Wing C2075; Almack, 61; Madan, F.F. New bibl. of the Eikon basilike, 65], James Flesher for R. Royston, 1662.  *** Authorship of the ‘Eikōn basilikē’ was originally attributed to Charles I, but according to Madan (pp. 126-33) it was written by John Gauden who probably included some authentic writings of the king. ‘A collection of declarations, treaties, and other principal passages concerning the differences betwixt King Charles I and his two houses of Parliament’, edited by William Fulman and Richard Perrinchief (Wing C2157C) has separate dated title page, pagination and register.
