From Saatchi Gallery, Loan of Art, pp.316 – “Sawyer is an artist and musician, and much of his artwork revolves around music. He has written down emotional song lyrics by the Velvet Underground and Neil Young on scraps of paper, which he then placed in strangers’ pockets on the underground, hoping they would transform the lives of those who happened to read them. In Don’t Ever Die Johnny, he explores the fanaticism of Johnny Cash’s groupies, and their inability to say goodbye to their idol”.
