A George III sterling silver argyle, London 1772 by Aaron Lestourgeon (reg. 27th June 1771)
Of cylindrical form with a moulded foot, the pull-off domed lid with a beaded rim surmounted by a cast artichoke finial. The long-curved spout opposite a wooden C scroll handle pinned to sockets. The handle with a hinged flap to the water well, internal double walled. The side of body and lid engraved with a crest of out of a ducal coronet, an eagle's head and neck per pale arg., guttée-de-sang, and sa., holding in the beak a trefoil slipped of the last. Fully marked underneath, makers mark to the internal lining, the lid unmarked as well as the water well cap.
