A George III sterling silver cup and cover, London 1803 by William Holmes (reg. 21st March 1792, died circa 1805)
In the Greco-Franco style, of rounded form upon spreading a circular foot, the twin handles formed as interlaced twin serpents with acanthus junctions. The pull-off domed lid surmounted by a compressed knop finial. The lower section of body with embossed stylised oak leaves, the foot and upper rim with a die-rolled border of laurel. The lid with shaped oblong cartouches reserved with fish scale pattern interspersed with rosettes. Fully marked to foot and part-marked to lid bezel.
