A George II sterling silver cake basket, London 1740 by John Jacob (reg. 20th June 1739)
Of oval form with a shaped C scroll and shell rim, all upon a cavetto foot with pierced scrolls. The opposable swing handle with acanthus capped ends leading to asymmetrical C scroll and rocaille junctions. The body with pierced decoration of nought cross amidst C scrolls and strap work motifs. The centre of the basket engraved with a later coat of arms in the George II style. Fully marked underneath, the handle unmarked.
