Franklin (Stanley Arthur, 1930-2004) ARR “That you growling, Ted?”, felt tip & ink wash with white highlights, 27 September 1968; “I shall miss Boris the head waiter”, felt tip & ink wash, framed & glazed, 5 May 1966; Franklin is back having a look at what’s on in London, felt tip, ink & blue pastel, 31 August 1964; all cartoons from The Daily Mirror, with dedications: ‘Best wishes from Stanley Franklin’, on board (3) *** The first cartoon shows Edward Heath, leader of the opposition in 1968, under threat from growing poll support for Enoch Powell. Powell had made his infamous "Rivers of Blood" speech criticising immigration to Britain a few months earlier, after which he was sacked from the shadow cabinet.
