A Victorian novelty sterling silver gilt mounted glass biscuit barrel, London 1864 by Daniel and John Welby
Formed as a barrel, the glass frosted and cut clear to resemble staves, the silver gilt mounts to resemble coopering, a vacant shield shape cartouche to the side. The pull off disc lid surmounted by a finial formed as a cast figure of a monkey wearing a ruff and a hat, drinking from a mug, while sat upon a parcel. Fully marked to the top band and interior of lid, part-marked to the other bands, the finial apparently unmarked.
