λ THREE IVORY NETSUKE.
19th Century.
The first, a figural netsuke representing a scene from the folktale, Shitakiri Suzume (Tongue-cut Sparrow), depicting an old woman staggering under the weight of a large basket, from which a red tongued goblin peeps, a sparrow beside her, 2.5cm H; the second, Shoki standing with a large hat, 3.2cm H; and the third, a tortoise with its head drawn in, 3.2cm wide. (3)
