A SMALL JAPANESE SATSUMA TEAPOT AND COVER BY YABU MEIZAN
Meiji Period, Late 19th Century, signed Yabu Meizan
Delicately potted with a tapering ovoid body set with a looping handle opposite an S-shaped spout, painted to one side with a pair of birds fluttering amongst wisteria and leafy sprays, the reverse with a figurative scene depicting people at leisure, all on a fine ground of flowerheads painted in gilt, topped with a bell-form cover surmounted by a finial moulded as a five-petalled flower, the base with a four-character Yabu Meizan mark enclosed within a square cartouche
