Bible, English.- [The Bible in Englyshe of the Largest and Greatest Volume], Great Bible version, black letter, double column, titles of 'The Seconde parte and Apocrypha' in elaborate woodcut historiated borders made up of 24 scenes, New Testament in broad border with figures of Moses, Christ & Queen Elizabeth, decorated initials, lacks the 22 preliminary ff., (including general title) except for 4 loose and torn ff with part of the Collectes and 'The names of all the bookes', AA2 (title to Psalmes), and 3 final ff., first A1&2 loose & holed with some loss, tears with some loss to first A7, AA4, HH8, Fff1, Aa1 (N.T. title -small loss, partly repaired) and Bb4, upper margin trimmed, touching some headlines, slight worming to inner margins, some inner margins reinforced, few other minor tears, a little staining or marking, but generally clean inside, a few early notes and names (Thomas Banstow (?), Richard Smith), loose eighteenth century vellum covers, without spine, [Herbert 119; STC 2098], folio (375 x 255 mm.), [Rouen, C. Hamilton for Richard Carmarden, 1566]. ***One of the two folio editions of the Great Bible printed in accordance with Queen Elizabeth's 1559 injunction for copies to be set up in churches. 'The thyrd of the Machabees', though listed in 'The names of all the bookes' is not in fact included in this edition.
