A Charles II silver communion cup, London circa 1670 by Thomas Cooper (free 1668. d. c. 1693)
Of tapering cylindrical form, upon a trumpet foot with a skirted edge. Marked with makers mark only once to rim and to underside foot rim.
Height – 14.9 cm / 5.95 inches
Weight – 261 grams / 8.39 ozt
Thomas Cooper, son of William Cooper, London Goldsmith who was apprenticed to plate worker Thomas Aylinge for eight years from Michaelmas 1660, free by service 4th Nov 1668. For the 1692 Poll Tax he was assessed in St Ann Aldersgate. He took on five apprentices including Gabriel Sleath and Thomas Knott.
