A George I Britannia standard silver half-quart tankard, London 1719 by Thomas Langford I (reg. 25th March 1715)

Of slightly tapering cylindrical form upon a moulded foot, with a hollow C scroll handle with a shield shaped terminal. The domed hinged lid with an overing hanging edge with incised concentric lines, raised by a scroll thumbpiece. The handle with engraved initials S over I* M. Fully marked to the side and the lid with makers mark struck three times to the interior.

Height – 15 cm / 5.9 inches

Weight – 507 grams / 16.3 ozt

A quart tankard by Langford of 1718 was sold Christie’s London, 11 Oct 1994, lot 228 (£2,750 incl. premium)
