A collection of four antique paper mache and lacquer Russian boxes for trinkets, rings, snuff or tobacco, three made in the village of Mstera (Мстера) along with one other, each hand painted and highlighted with gold paint.  One depicting 'The Tale of the Dead Princess and The Seven Knights' (Сказка о Мертвой Царевне) by Aleksandr Pushkin, signed and dated В. Шалаев 1932, for Vladimir Shalaev.  One depicting 'Ilya Muromets and Solovei Razboinik' (Илья Муромец и Соловои Разбойник), a tale from Russian folklore.  One signed Грачев Г. В. for G. V Grachev who was chief artist at 'The Proletarian Art Factory' of Mstera.
