A George III sterling silver teapot, London 1796 by Henry Chawner (reg. 11th Nov 1786)
Oval form with panelled sides, the panelled spout opposite a wooden scroll handle pinned to panelled sockets, leading to a hinged domed lid surmounted by a detachable wooden fluted knop finial. The sides with bright cut engraved shield shaped cartouches reserved in a striated architrave, with pendant swags to each side and a scroll work lintel, each infilled with initials WPC in cursive script. The base with an engine turned spiral band, the upper section with a trailing ribbon band between bright cut lines. Fully marked underneath and lion passant only to lid. Various scratch weight underneath including 15=7.
