Iran, second half 19th century

Persian manuscript on paper, with 7ll. of naskh and free-flowing shikasteh nasta'liq scripts beneath a miniature portrait of the young Nasir al-Din Shah in day uniform and regalia, the title in blue naskh script, the king’s name in gold, the black shikasteh nasta’liq text signed by the prominent minister and politician, Mirza Yahya Khan Moshar ul-Dowleh Qazwini, Mo’tamed al-Mulk (1831 - 1892), the document stipulating the payment of 80 tumans to the court painter Mirza Abul Hasan Khan Kashani Ghaffari, Sani al-Mulk (1814 - 1866) for his portrayal of ‘the special outfits and the trappings of horse-keeping with great care and in good taste’, mounted, framed and glazed, 30cm x 16cm, 46cm x 29cm including the frame.
