A George III Irish sterling silver sugar bowl, Dublin circa 1780 by I.W probably John West (active 1754-1806)
Of rounded form with notched everted rim, raised on three hoof feet with shell junctions and chased rocaille sourmounds. The body with embossed decoration of flower heads, with rocaille C scrolls and birds, the front with a rocaille C scroll cartouche, engraved with a crest of a demi-rampant holding a rose, with initials below TMR in flourished cursive script. The rim with flat chased flower heads and leaves. Marked underneath with makers mark, standard mark and town mark only.

The crest is for Rose of Limerick, Ireland
For Thomas Manusell Rose (c.1748-1831) son of Richard Rose (d.1762) and Mary Anderson, who was born in Limerick, co. Limerick, Ireland. He was made a Freeman of Limerick on 9th October 1815. His estates were Ahabeg and Rathkeale County Limerick. He married Mary Low (d.1847). He died on 12th October 1831.
