A QAJAR POLYCHROME-PAINTED ENAMELLED AND GEM-SET CHOKER
Qajar Iran, 19th century

Of typical narrow and elongated rectangular shape, made of eighteen individual gold square pendants joint with thin metal wires at the top and bottom strung with untested seed pearls, the front and back of each pendant painted in polychrome enamels featuring lush floral designs including pink roses, blue flowers, and green foliage, the centre encrusted with cusped gem-set gold flowerheads alternating untested spinels, emeralds, and green beads, on each end a modern gold chainlink necklace with a hook and clasp respectively, approx. 11.5cm diam. and 33cm long (when open).

Provenance: purchased at Piasa Gallery and Auction House, Paris, the stock inventory tag reading the sale number '13281', lot 181.
