Corpus Christi College interest – A George IV sterling silver wine goblet, London 1822 by Thomas Johnson
Of rounded circular form upon a spreading circular foot. Engraved to the front with a coat of arms for Oxford Corpus Christi college. Engraved to the foot rim “Jacobus Bowstead Praemium Literarum 1822”. Gilt interior. Fully marked to the side.

James Bowstead (1801–1843) was an Anglican clergyman who served in the Church of England as the Bishop of Sodor and Man (1838–1840) and Bishop of Lichfield (1840–1843).
James matriculated at St John’s in 1820 but after a year transferred to Corpus Christi college, where he graduated BA in 1824, Doctorate of Divinity in 1834. He was a Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge (1824–1838) and also a tutor at the college (1832–1838).
