A George II early 18th century Channel Islands silver trefid spoon, Jersey circa 1730 mark of GS below a crowned fleur-de-lis (unidentified, active circa 1730-1779)
oval bowl with moulded rat tail heel, the terminal with contemporaneous initials F * B Z/S conjoined, in Roman script with hatching. Marked to stem with makers mark only (Mayne p.53).
Length – 17.8 cm / 8 inches
Weight – 35 grams / 1.13 ozt
This mark is detailed on page 53 Richard Mayne, Channel Island Silver, Oxford University Press, 1985, where is listed as being found on ‘many trefid spoons’, as well as 3 three-pronged trefid forks. The mark is illustrated on page 91.
