Judaica – A Victorian sterling silver torah pointer (yad), London 1895 by JM, probably Joseph Maxfield (reg. 19th Feb 1892)
Tapering octagonal form, screw fitted hand terminal, bulbous end with lion terminal, with ring attachment and suspension chain. Engraved decoration to body and in Hebrew reading זנר הירש ליב קין בןרחיים הלוי (Zener Hirsch Leib Cain Ben-Rehaim Halevi) and זנר אהרן מאיר ערינם בן רעקב זאב (Zener Aaron Meir their son of Raacov Zev). Fully marked to side, and part-marked to hand.
Length (body) – 26.7 cm / 10.5 inches
Weight – 121 grams / 3.89 ozt
W.H & J Maxfield at all Saints Manchester, listed in 1895 as show case, jewel case and purse manufacters
Another mark register at this is Joesph Maizels (reg. 4th June 1894), who appears to be a watch maker.
