Haakon VII, King of Norway
Autograph letter signed ('Haakon R.') to Sir W.D. Ross, Provost of Oriel College, Oxford, from 1929 to1947 and Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University from 1941 to 1944, reading "I must write and thank you for your hospitality and for all the arrangements made on the occasion of conferring the Degree of Doctor of Civil Law on me, the act of which always will be amongst my most pleasant recollections", two pages, mild folding mark, 8vo, 1 July 1943, 10 Palace Green.
***LETTER WRITTEN BY KING HAAKON VII OF NORWAY DURING HIS EXILE. After Germany invaded Norway in late spring 1940, the royal family and Norwegian government were evacuated by the Allies. King Haakon and his Cabinet set up a Norwegian government in exile in the British capital. The King's official residence was the Norwegian Legation at 10 Palace Green, Kensington, which became the seat of the Norwegian government in exile
