A LARGE CHINESE EMBROIDERED SILK 'LANDSCAPE' PANEL.
Qing Dynasty.
The portrait panel of a mountain landscape, the mountains to upper section of panel emerging from stylised clouds, the lower section with scenes of figures in a landscape of buildings and bridges, mounted in a glazed gilt slip with a teal mount, 205 x 82cm.
Provenance: Purchased by the current owner's great grandfather, Andreas Hansen Erikse (1868-1953), in Beijing (Peking) circa 1905. Andreas Hansen Erikse was stationed in Shanghai and Beijing between 1901 and 1927. A copy of a period photograph, circa 1920, of the panel mounted on the wall in his apartment accompanies the lot.
