Drolls.- Collet (John, after) The Manchester Hero, or Arts yield to Arms, 20 April 1778, with Lady Gorget raising Recruits for Cox-Heath, 4 June 1781, & Dighton (Robert, after) Nine drolls, including: The Humorous Thought of a School Boy; Up to Everything; What d’ye think of me?; A Democrat; Well Neighbour What’s the News?; What D’ye Stare At?; A Rogue in Grain; Tax About; A Drap of Comfort, hand-coloured mezzotints, each numbered within the plate, some trimmed into a patterned border and laid on a gilt background, with gilt decorations, some tears, plates c. 155 x 110 mm, framed & glazed, Carington Bowles or Bowles & Carver, 1778 - 1790s (11) *** Collet, and later Dighton, were the main exponents of the 'droll' mezzotint genre, which became very popular during the 18th century.
