Spanish Embroidered Binding.-

Reales cedulas de ereccion, y ordinanzas de los tres cuerpos de comercio de el principado de Cathaluña, que residen en la ciudad de Barcelona..., woodcut Royal coat of arms (Charles III, 1759-1788), capital letter & engraved vignette on p. 1, woodcut coat of arms approved for the three bodies of commerce of Catalonia in full page, at the end, by P. Moles after F. Tramullas, minor spotting, contemporary silk and silver embroidered Spanish binding, [Palau (251868)], small folio, Francisco Suriá, Barcelona, 1763.

*** A magnificent 18th century embroidered binding on turquoise silk wove, with floral and foliate designs, worked with metal silver. The binding is a beautiful example of metal thread embroidery, normally associated with status and wealth. It reflects the taste of the 18th century when embroidery became much more naturalistic in character, especially because of the growth of trade with China and the far East.
