*** A magnificent 18^th century embroidered binding on turquoise silk wove, with floral and foliate designs, worked with metal silver. The binding is a beautiful example of metal thread embroidery, normally associated with status and wealth. It reflects the taste of the 18^th century when embroidery became much more naturalistic in character, especially because of the growth of trade with China and the far East.
