Qajar Iran, late 19th - early 20th century

Of circular shape, with a reinforced, upward-turned rim, the table top finely engraved with eight large cusped cartouches portraying the Persian Kings of the Past including Tur, Key Kawad, and Jamshid, each identified by his name in naskh script, set against a densely ornate background of intricate vegetal tendrils, interlocking sprays, arabesques, rosettes, full floral bloom and abstract festoons flanked by herons and aquatic mythical creatures, more decorative cartouches to the centre and border in-filled with rural landscape views populated by sparrows, storks, roosters and several animals including gazelles and horses, the crenelated sides embellished with pierced and engraved vegetal motifs, 51.5cm diam.
