A George III sterling silver nutmeg grater, London 1787 by Peter Carter (reg. 24th March 1783)
Of oval cylindrical form. The hinged lid with an engraved elliptical cartouche with initials FC in cursive script. Flanked by cornucopia spilling foliage, otherwise with engraved bands throughout. Base metal grater to interior. Hinged lower section. Fully marked to interior of lower section, makers mark and lion passant to the lid interior.
