A BRASS HANGING OIL LAMP WITH A ROOSTER FINIAL
Deccan, Central India, 19th century
Cast in multiple parts, consisting of a shallow circular dish with everted rim, a tubular ringed shaft, and an oil container with seven spouts surmounted by a finial of a rooster, linked at the top to a hanging chain, reminiscent of 17th and 18th-century examples of Sinhalese oil lamps, 31cm diam. and 91.5cm high including the chain.
