Autograph letter signed ('G. Renaudot') to a colleague in Boston, in French, reading in part "Would you excuse Mr. Flammarion for not replying sooner. He would like to thank you for your letter…you getting regularly Astronomical society bulletin and you must have noticed that the bulletin is so good that it is read by our soldiers on the front line. Information in the bulletin is giving our soldiers comfort and they can study the sky…many of Mr. Flammarion’s colleagues are on the front line defending our dear France. The crisis that we are in now shouldn’t decrease intellectual study of the sky", four pages, folding marks with occasional splitting and tape repair, light yellowing, 8vo, Paris, Societe Astronomique de France, 27 October 1915.
*** Gabrielle Renaudot Flammarion was a French astronomer. She published works on the surface features of Mars as well as Jupiter’s red spot. A crater on Mars is named in her honour.
