Usually, people think that the name Tri-Compax refers to a watch having three sub-dials; however, the term 'tri' refers to the three complications of chronograph, date and moon phases.
The Universal Geneve Tri-Compax was first introduced to the market in 1944 during the Baselworld show (22nd April - 2nd May) to celebrate 50 years of active production, and the triple calendar chronograph with moon phases quickly became Universal Geneve's best-selling watch. This fame became such that during the 1945 Potsdam conference, a Tri-Compax model was given to US President Harry Truman.
The dial, movement reference and lower serial number on this model we present here, and the extremely rare, if not unique, faceted lugs, plus the engraving on the back of our watch lead us to believe that it could very well be one of the watches used during the Baselworld show in 1944, when the Tri-Compax model was first presented to the world.
