TWO KUTAHYA POTTERY TILES WITH FLOWERS
PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE LONDON COLLECTION
Kutahya, Ottoman Turkey, first half 18th century

Comprising two tiles, each of square shape, underglaze painted in cobalt blue, turquoise, and black on white ground, one featuring a central cypress tree issuing two elongated carnation stems and a pair of serrated leaves, flanked by cusped arabesque medallions, two bands of vegetal trellis above and below, 18.5cm x 18.5cm; and the other larger in size and featuring a central rosette set within a frame of scrolling vegetal meanders stemming from crown-like headgears, possibly stylised bishop's hats, small tulip stems in the corners of the inner square, 22cm x 21.7cm.

Provenance: Previously part of a Private Collection based in London and formed between the 1970s and 1980s.
