AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY FRENCH PORCELAIN FIGURE OF 'LA FILLETTE AU MOULIN' AFTER CHARDIN circa first quarter of the 20th century, figure designed circa 1908, made by 'rue de la Pierre-Levée' of Paris, hard paste porcelain painted in enamels and gilded, depicting a girl holding a violin and drum standing next to a magic lantern on a stool, she pulls a model windmill and a child's painting leans against the stool, the top of the base behind the figure is marked with crossed arrows in underglaze blue, the title 'LA FILLETTE AU MOULIN D'APRES CHARDIN' incribed in gilt to the front, 14cm high, 12.5cm long Footnote: This figure has the marks that are similar to those used at Vincent Dubois' factory at the rue de la Rocquette. This factory closed in 1790, a date that is too early for this model. The marks were also used at the factory founded by Jean-Marx Clauss in rue de la Pierre-Levée in around 1820, a date which is also too early for this model. The factory changed ownership after 3 generations, when it was acquired by Achille Bloch, during whose ownership this figure was probably made. Production of its 'porcelaine de Paris' continues to this day. A series of 14 group figures all from Chardin's paintings was made at the request of Achille Bloch around 1908 and produced until 1970.
