The well-potted cup and saucer painted with a figurative scene in which a lady dressed in pink robes decorated with gilt trim and a ruyi-shaped necklace fondles the beard of a scholarly gentleman, the cavetto with a quartet of slender panels enclosing pairs of Mandarin ducks and geese, symbolising a wish for a harmonious marriage, the cup similarly decorated
