A PAIR OF QAJAR POLYCHROME-PAINTED ENAMELLED AND GEM-SET GOLD EARRINGS
Qajar Iran, 19th century
Each made of two gold charms linked together, the upper element of square shape, the lower element drop-shaped, the front bejewelled with uneven-sized untested red gems, possibly a combination of rubies and spinels, some cabochon-cut, other faceted, and central glass beads backed on silver and green foil to imitate diamonds ad emeralds, caparisoned with five small pearl pendants, the reverse painted in polychrome enamels with floral designs and birds, with modern hooks, each approx. 6.5cm long including hooks.
