A GILT COPPER-HILTED KUTCH SWORD (SHAMSHIR) North India, second half 19th century With a curved single-edged water steel blade, with inscribed gold and silver-inlaid lobed cartouches and a stamp near the forte, the hilt of typical T-shape with curved knob-like pommel, decorated with flower scrolls, the wooden scabbard clad with red velvet and embellished with gilt-copper fittings matching the floral design of the hilt, two hoops affixed to the sheath, 93.5cm long including the scabbard. A Kutch shamshir with an analogous handle and floral decoration on the scabbard was successfully sold at Sotheby's London, 25 April 2018, lot 160.
