A TINNED COPPER INCENSE BURNER (BUHURDAN)
Ottoman Turkey, 18th century

Of ovoid shape, resting on a splayed conical foot on a circular tray, the hemispherical base of the body pierced with three scrolling arms supporting the sides, the dome-shaped hinged lid decorated with diagonal bands alternating with openwork rosette and floral sprays, below it a band of plain cusped cartouches interspersed with openwork scrollwork, the base, foot and tray engraved with stylised arabesques, saz leaves and vegetal scrolls, 22.5cm high.
