A set of four mid-18th century German silver altar candlesticks (altarleuchter), Augsburg 1745-47 by Franz Christoph Mederle (master 1729, d. 1765)

Of shaped triform scroll form bases upon scroll feet, with shaped inverted baluster columns, the capital sections with scalloped edge. Chased rocaille scrolls with cartouches to each section, all against a textured ground. Chased decoration to the column sections. Ferrous metal picket section. Central threaded construction with a wooden block. Marked with town mark and date letter G, maker's mark FC over M (Selling 2219). (4)
