A RARE EARLY 20TH CENTURY AMERICAN NOVELTY COCKTAIL SHAKER MODELLED AS A WW1 ARTILLERY SHELL

the silver plated, brass and copper cocktail shaker inscribed to the base and to the bottom of the upper section 'FAC-SIMILIE EIGHTEEN POUNDER SHRAPNEL SHELL PATENT APPLIED FOR IN AMERICA AND FOREIGN COUNTRIES', the removable silver plated shaker sitting in the brass shell case base, with a copper driving band to the lower base, the removable brass 'fuse cap' with measurements around the edge, with internal strainer,

The Gorham Manufacturing Company produced some examples that were formed from old artillery shells, but when these were not available, produced fac-similes of them to produce the same unusual decorative effect.
