A George III sterling silver coffee biggin, London 1809 by William Burwash & Richard Sibley (reg. 7th Oct 1805) later retailed by George Lambert & Co
Of cylindrical form with domed top with moulded rim, the body with half-fluted decoration. The hinged lid with gadrooned rim and cavetto edge leading to a gently domed fluted centre surmounted by a wooden knop finial. The simple panel spout with ribbed centre opposite a later wooden handle. The side engraved with a later crest of a griffin passant. The interior with internal flange with notches (for a filter). Fully marked underneath and part-marked to lid, also with scratch weight 23-0 and later stamped ‘Lambert 12 Coventry St London’.

George Lambert & Co is known to have supplied many ‘reproductions’ examples of silver from the William III – Queen Anne era in Britannia standard from the 1880’s, thus the retailing of old plate would figure alongside such articles quite successfully.
