A GOLD-INLAID (KOFTGARI) STEEL INKWELL AND TWO SILVER-INLAID STEEL DISHES
Possibly Kashmir, Northern India, 19th century

Comprising a koftgari inkwell, designed in the shape of an apple still attached to a branch with leaves, resting on a stepped oval base, the gold-inlaid decoration consisting of overlapping bands of vegetal sprays and spiral motifs, 8.4cm x 15cm; and two silver-inlaid dishes, of circular shape, resting on a short foot, the interior decorated as a series of overlying chinar leaves with typical staggered edges, each plate enhanced with an overlaid brass stem pinned to the bottom edge of the plate, the base of one plate lined with a gilt red cotton cloth, 22.5cm diam.
