Possibly Egypt, mid to late 19th century

Of typical rectangular shape, the two dark hardwood panels carved with geometric patterns and inlaid with bone fragments laid out in a style imitating typical Mamluk marquetry motifs like pentagons filled with geometric shapes and stellar motifs, the back plain, an old inventory sticker from Sotheby’s Valuation department referring the pair as ‘Mamluk door panels’, approx. 190cm x 77cm.
