A FINE SOUTH INDIAN BRONZE OIL LAMP WITH A HINDU GODDESS SEATED ON A HAMSA BIRD
Possibly South India, 17th - 18th century
Of typical shape, resting on a short splayed foot, rising to a circular oil tray with four cusped terminals pointing to the four directions, with a ringed tubular shaft, at the top a mythological Hamsa bird carrying on its back a Hindu goddess seated in half lotus position and wearing her typical headpiece, possibly Saraswati, the Goddess of Knowledge, or a form of Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth, 16.5cm wide and 26.5cm high.
