A pair of aluminium flower earclips, by JAR Each purple flowerhead of anodized aluminium, clip fittings, signed JAR, length 3.2cm, maker's pouch In late 2002 to early 2003 the Gilbert Collection at Somerset House hosted the exihition 'The Jewels of JAR, Paris'. This still talked about exhibition consisted of 400 pieces created by the American born, French based master jeweller Joel Arthur Rosenthal. Guests of the exhibition toured rooms in pitch darkness and with a torch in hand. To see these masterpiece jewels, the viewer must literally shine their light on them, making each viewing experience unique and private. At the time of the exhibition it was estimated that only about 250 people worldwide actually owned a work by JAR. 145 of them lent their pieces to the exhibition.  These aluminium and gold clips were specially created for the exhibition. This pair of earrings were purchased by the vendor in November 2002, during the first week of the exhibition.  For a recent similar example see Christie's 'Jewels Online', Lot 4, February 2019.
