AN INEBRIATED FARANGI COUPLE Bundi, North Western India, late 18th - early 19th century  Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, the vertical composition depicting a merry couple of farangi (foreigners), possibly Armenian given their costumes and the crutch the man is holding onto, the woman with an ewer in one hand, the other wrapped around her companion, the man drinking out of a small floral cup, possibly a spirit or wine cup, with a collared dog at their feet, the scene set in a field, an inscription to the top in black ink Devanagari script, with ochre and red borders, mounted, glazed and framed, 31.5cm x 22.5cm, 59cm x 45.5cm including the frame. Provenance: Christie's South Kensington, 22 April 2016, lot 559.
