A George III sterling silver coffee biggin / pot on stand, London 1816 by William Burwash (this mark reg. 23rd April 1813)
of cylindrical from upon a circular foot, the body with half-fluted decoration. The top with cavetto edge and gadrooned shell and scroll rim. A spout with chased decoration of three flowers against a matted ground, opposite a turned ribbed ivory handle with serpent head junction to the top with beaded canthus feral, and serpent tails to the base similarly fitted. The hinged gently domed lid with fluted section surmounted by a detachable turn ivory fluted finial. Engraved to the side with an impaled coat of arms in a S scroll lozenge within a rococo cartouche reserved with rustication. The circular stand with gadrooned rim raised on three anthemion and acanthus scroll lion paw bracket feet, with a detachable burner. The burner and stand engraved with a crest of a bull’s head couped. Fully marked underneath, part-marked to lid, stand, burner and lid and lion passant only to retaining nut.
