A pair of very rare and unusual antique George IV Irish Solid Sterling Silver mutton / chop serving tongs consisting of an articulated fork and spoon, by Laurence Keary, Dublin 1822. Retailed by John Twycross. This item, from this scarcely seen silversmith, is clearly made for purpose, probably to order, as can be seen not only by the varying thickness of the handles, but also in the shape of the spoon handle and the positioning of crests and monograms on the piece. Crested to the back of the fork head with a left-facing horse rampant atop a Ducal coronet, and monogrammed to the tips of the curved handles 'CS'. Length 22.5cm / 8.8". Weight 150.1g / 4.85 troy oz. Provenance Property of a notable Irish family, by descent to the current owner.
