AN EXTREMLY RARE AND EXTREMELY WELL-PRESERVED MEN’S STAINLESS-STEEL MANUAL VINTAGE WRISTWATCH (POSSIBLE FOR PARATROUPERS)

Date: Circa 1939
Movement: Signed “Rolex Chronometer”, 17-Rubies, Cal. Ultra Prima, timed to 6 positions, Rolex Patented Flexible Suspension.
Dial: Signed, silvered, gilt applied Arabic numerals, black outer minute division, subsidiary dial for seconds at the 6 o’clock position, blued sword hands
Case: Signed, “Viceroy” stainless steel, screw down Rolex Oyster crown, signed screw down back signed “Oyster Watch Co. Geneva, Great Britain, Swiss, French, U.S.A and German Patents” and “SAR” stamped inside the screw down back, No. 75772
Strap: Generic Brown leather strap, signed stainless steel Rolex buckle
Size: 31mm

This Rolex has a highly unusual patented flexible suspension wheel, which is an early form of shock resistance.

Rolex made batches of superior watches and having no model number means this is an early prototype or one of a short experimental run, probably for paratroupers to absorb the impact.

The closest looking is model 24 from 1938, of which few were made, and it might be one of these, looking like a bubbleback but it isn’t (model 25 is the start of the bubbleback).
