AN INDIAN POLYCHROME-ENAMELLED ELEPHANT HOWDAH FIGURINE

Featuring a large statuette with a hathi howdah (palanquin on elephant's back) with a mahout, a ruler comfortably seated in the palanquin, and two foot guards at the front, mounted on a polychrome-enamelled stepped pedestal painted with pink lotus petals on the edges on a rectangular white metal base incised with floral and vegetal motifs, the figures and elephant painted in green, blue, yellow, turquoise, black, white and pink enamels, caparisoned with pearl strands hanging from the howdah and the base, 22.3cm x 18cm x 14.5cm.
